Solarised…

I was dinking around with a tutorial that shows how to create a classic solarisation look in Photoshop. Man Ray is one of my all time favorite photographer/artists, so I felt it only necessary to try and replicate what masters like that used to create only after lots of practice and flat out luck.

Technology is grand.

Worlds Underwater

I love visiting an aquarium or zoo of any kind, and no I don’t have kids! Being an observer in another world is always thrilling. We decided to check out the New York Aquarium in Coney Island.

Textures are my passion, and I love making photos hyper-surreal and trippy. Here are a couple I’ve worked on for fun.

Sullen Seahorse

I’m a little addicted to HDR Toning feature in Photoshop. It helps turn captured scenes into these other-worldly landscapes with very little effort.

Subterranean Octopus

I had this texture in mind as I was taking the shot of the octopus’ tentacles on the glass. What luck he was in that position for me! This was created by applying a threshold mask to original image, then blending an olive color fill over it using Linear Light mode. Then I sandwiched in another scratch metal texture and blended it using Subtract. The result is a real gutter/subterranean spin on something organic.

Greenwood Cemetery, Brooklyn

To start things off, I wanted to share a few serendipitous photos from Greenwood Cemetery near where I live in Brooklyn. My hobby has been photographing cemeteries for as long as I can remember, so you will see lots here in the future for sure!

I say serendipitous because the sun light was the most beautiful I’ve ever seen, and this particular cemetery is kept in a such a meticulous manner that a stroll through is anything but sinister.  I decided to share the images completely unedited, to illustrate my point.

Inaugural……

Welcome to the first post of Optic Redux!

I plan on making this my all around repository for what I find fun and interesting. I’m on a path of learning digital design and photography, so you can look forward to seeing my ongoing work here as my skills progress.

Who knows what the future will bring, but I hope to share amazing photography (hopefully mine later but others that I admire!), artwork, and musings.

Stay tuned, and thanks for joining…..
